programOur Program
Due to the limited number of campers, Camp Shi’ini is able to offer a great variety of activities with more individual supervision. Both a senior and junior counselor are assigned to each tribe. Senior counselors are hired on the basis of ideals, college records, maturity, knowledge, driving records, and overall experience working with children. Junior counselors are hired on the basis of leadership, character, attentiveness, and dependability. Both sets of counselors are well trained and exceptionally responsible. They take great pride in their jobs and love working with the campers. While at camp, the children are placed into various tribes according to their ages. Each of these tribes functions as a separate unit throughout the day, and is composed of 13 campers and two counselors. We are proud that our 6.5:1 camper-to-counselor-ratio is one of the very best throughout all of Southern California. If you child has any friends or neighbors the same age also enrolled in camp, we will make sure that they are placed in the same tribe.

locationCamp Location
Our base camp is at Arroyo Park, located on Stoney Drive in South Pasadena. The shaded areas and open fields of Arroyo Park provide the perfect atmosphere for most of our camp activities. From there, our campers journey throughout the picturesque Arroyo Seco for horseback riding, fishing, archery, bear hunting, and on treasure hunt excavations. transportationTransportation
Camp Shi’ini vans make door-to-door pick-ups in the following ten cities: Alhambra, Altadena, Arcadia, La Cañada, Pasadena, San Gabriel, San Marino, Sierra Madre, South Pasadena, and Temple City. Families living in neighboring cities may arrange for alternate pickup and drop-off locations like Brookside Park and La Cañada Park. Counselors pick up campers from their homes in new, seat-belt-equipped vans between 8:30 and 9:20 AM. Campers are dropped off at home between 3:50 and 4:40 PM. Since safety is our primary concern, each van driver must go through extensive training and earn a Commercial Class B Driver’s License from the DMV. Child booster seats are permitted for campers under age six.
